• One of Africa’s most extraordinary wildlife experiences.
— Mandi, co-Director of African Fusion Travel
Every year, across the vast plains of northern Tanzania and southern Kenya, one of the greatest natural spectacles on Earth unfolds. Known as the Great Migration, this remarkable journey sees more than 1.5 million wildebeest, along with hundreds of thousands of zebras and gazelles, moving across the Serengeti ecosystem in search of fresh grazing and water.
At African Fusion Travel, the Great Migration is one of the safari experiences we love planning most for our clients. It’s dramatic, unpredictable and completely driven by nature – and from our own travels through the Serengeti, it’s something that truly has to be seen to be believed.
Standing on the open plains while thousands of animals move across the landscape is a moment that stays with you forever. The distant rumble of hooves, dust rising in the sunlight, predators watching from the sidelines – it’s the African wilderness at its most raw and authentic.
What is the Great Migration?
It’s a year-round movement of wildlife across the Serengeti–Mara ecosystem, following seasonal rainfall and the growth of fresh grass. While it’s often spoken about as a single “event,” the migration is actually a continuous circular journey that unfolds throughout the year across Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park and into Kenya’s Masai Mara.
The migration is driven almost entirely by instinct and survival. As grazing areas become depleted, the herds move onwards, following the rains and the promise of greener pastures. Along the way they face numerous challenges – from powerful river crossings to predators that rely on the herds for survival. The result is one of the most dynamic and fascinating wildlife ecosystems on the planet.
The Different Phases of the Migration
One of the most common questions we receive from clients is: “When is the best time to see the Great Migration?” The truth is that the migration can be experienced throughout the year, depending on what part of the journey you would like to witness.
Calving Season (January – March)
During the early months of the year, the herds gather on the southern Serengeti plains and Ndutu region, where the grasses are nutrient-rich and ideal for newborn animals. This is when hundreds of thousands of wildebeest calves are born, often within a few short weeks. It’s an incredible time to visit, as predator activity is high and the plains are filled with wildlife.
For photographers and wildlife enthusiasts, this period offers some of the most rewarding game viewing in Africa.
Herd Movements Across the Serengeti (April – June)
As the rains begin to shift and the southern plains dry out, the herds gradually start moving north and west through the central Serengeti. During these months the migration forms massive columns of animals moving across the landscape. While river crossings are not yet the focus, the sheer scale of the herds can be astonishing.
This is also a beautiful time of year in the Serengeti, with dramatic skies, fewer vehicles and exceptional game viewing.
Mara River Crossings (July – October)
For many travellers, the river crossings in the northern Serengeti are the most iconic moments of the Great Migration. As the herds reach the Mara River, they must cross crocodile-filled waters to continue their journey north into Kenya’s Masai Mara. These crossings are unpredictable and often chaotic, with thousands of animals plunging into the river at once.
It’s a powerful reminder of the raw forces of nature – and witnessing one in person is something very few people ever forget.

Why the Serengeti is So Special
The Serengeti is not only famous because of the migration. It’s also one of the most wildlife-rich ecosystems in Africa.Even outside of migration season, visitors can expect exceptional sightings of lion, leopards, cheetah, elephants, giraffes, buffalo, hyenas, and an incredible array of birdlife.
Why Choosing the Right Camp Matters
Because the migration is constantly moving, location is everything when planning a safari. The key to a successful migration safari is staying in camps that are positioned along the migration route for the specific time of year you are travelling.
At African Fusion Travel, we work closely with trusted safari camps across the Serengeti to ensure our clients are in the right place at the right time. With the migration shifting throughout the year, careful planning can make all the difference between simply visiting the Serengeti and truly experiencing the migration.

• Why More Travellers Are Choosing Expert-Led African Adventures
— Maxine, co-Director of African Fusion Travel
The world of travel is constantly evolving, and one trend that continues to grow stronger each year is the demand for authentic, experience-driven holidays. Travellers are no longer simply looking for a place to stay — they want meaningful journeys, unforgettable wildlife encounters, and seamless travel experiences. Safari holidays across Africa have emerged as one of the most sought-after travel styles globally, offering a rare opportunity to disconnect from everyday life and reconnect with nature in its most spectacular form.
One of the biggest trends we’re seeing is a shift toward experiential travel. Guests want more than just ticking off destinations — they want to feel the destination. A sunrise game drive across the Serengeti, watching elephants gather around a waterhole in Botswana, or listening to lions call across the bushveld at dusk are the kinds of moments that stay with travellers long after they return home. Safaris deliver these experiences in abundance, combining adventure, wildlife, culture, and extraordinary landscapes all in one journey.

Another growing trend is the move toward smaller, more personalised travel experiences. Boutique safari lodges and intimate camps are becoming increasingly popular as travellers seek privacy, exclusivity, and authentic connections with their surroundings. Many of Africa’s best safari properties host only a handful of guests at a time, allowing for tailored game drives, attentive service, and a deeper appreciation of the wilderness. This style of travel is particularly appealing for honeymooners, families, and milestone celebrations where every detail matters.
Sustainability is also playing a significant role in modern travel choices. Many safari lodges across Africa are leading the way in conservation-focused tourism, supporting wildlife protection, community development, and environmental preservation. Travellers today are more conscious about where their money goes, and safari tourism often contributes directly to protecting the very ecosystems guests come to experience.
With safaris becoming more popular worldwide, another key trend is the return to booking through trusted travel experts rather than navigating the process alone online. Planning a safari is far more complex than booking a standard beach holiday. Flights, charter transfers, park regulations & fees, seasonal wildlife movements, lodge logistics, and local knowledge all play a crucial role in creating the right itinerary.
This is where booking through a specialist tour operator makes all the difference. A trusted operator brings first-hand experience, established relationships with lodges and suppliers, and the ability to curate journeys that truly suit each traveller. Having personally visited many of the properties and destinations we recommend allows us to guide clients toward the right safari style — whether it’s a fly-in safari in Botswana, a classic Big Five experience in South Africa, or a once-in-a-lifetime migration adventure in Tanzania.
Beyond expertise, travellers increasingly value peace of mind. Travel today can be unpredictable, and having an experienced team on hand — before, during, and after the journey — ensures that every detail is handled and support is always available when needed. From navigating complex itineraries to arranging seamless connections and special touches along the way, working with a knowledgeable tour operator transforms a safari from a simple trip into a perfectly curated adventure.

Ultimately, safari travel remains one of the most powerful and inspiring ways to explore our planet. Few experiences rival the thrill of seeing wildlife in its natural habitat, surrounded by some of the most breathtaking landscapes on Earth. With expert guidance and thoughtful planning, a safari becomes more than just a holiday — it becomes a story you’ll tell for the rest of your life.
For travellers dreaming of Africa, the journey begins long before the plane takes off. With the right expertise behind the scenes, every safari can be crafted into something truly extraordinary.
Let Us Curate Your Journey
At African Fusion Travel, we believe that our knowledge is your power. Because we’ve travelled here, met the people, and stayed in the lodges and hotels, we know how to tailor the perfect itinerary for you – whether you’re dreaming of barefoot escapes, wildlife-rich adventures, or cultural immersion.
So if Africa is whispering your name, ask us for a quote and let us curate your perfect safari.
Madagascar Magic

– A Tale of Two Islands off Mainland Madagascar: Nosy Be & Île Sainte Marie
— Maxine, co-Director of African Fusion Travel
“Travel often has a way of leaving a mark on your heart – and Madagascar, with its blend of untouched natural beauty, cultural depth, and warm hospitality, does just that. I’ve had the privilege of exploring its treasures first-hand, from the bustling capital of Antananarivo (fondly called Tana) to the far-flung islands of Nosy Be and Île Sainte Marie. And let me tell you: few destinations compare.”
A World Apart – Madagascar’s Magic
What makes Madagascar so magical is its uniqueness. Over 80% of the island’s flora and fauna cannot be found anywhere else in the world. Watching lemurs leap between branches, gazing up at iconic baobab trees silhouetted against fiery sunsets, or stepping onto soft, palm-lined beaches where time slows – it’s a sensory experience that never leaves you.
And because we’ve visited, explored, and personally stayed at the properties we recommend, you can be assured our expertise is rooted in real experiences. When we say we know the magic of Madagascar, it’s because we’ve lived it.
Touchdown in Tana
My journey begins in Antananarivo, the capital – a city of contrasts. Its bustling markets, colourful textiles, and colonial architecture are an introduction to Madagascar’s history and culture. Here you’ll encounter a lively blend of Malagasy traditions and French influence, best savoured with a stroll through local craft markets or over a steaming plate of romazava (a national dish of meat and greens).

Nosy Be – Perfumed Island Paradise
Flying north from Tana brings you to Nosy Be, known as “the perfumed island” thanks to its ylang-ylang plantations and spicy vanilla. From here, it’s a short boat ride to tiny islets like Nosy Komba (a sanctuary for black lemurs) and Nosy Tanikely (a marine reserve where snorkelling reveals kaleidoscopic reefs and turtles gliding by).
Hidden gems? Think: rum distilleries tucked away in villages, sunset hikes up Mont Passot for panoramic views, and lively markets bursting with vanilla pods, peppers, and fresh seafood.
Île Sainte Marie – Romance & History
Off the east coast lies Île Sainte Marie, a slender island once infamous as a pirate haven. Today, it’s a place of tranquillity and romance, with turquoise lagoons, coconut groves, and small fishing villages that feel far removed from the modern world. You can cycle along sandy tracks, wander through lush orchid forests, or pay a visit to one of the world’s only pirate cemeteries – a nod to its colourful history.
And if you visit between July and September, prepare for one of the most moving spectacles imaginable: humpback whales migrating and breaching offshore.

Top 3 Must-Do Experiences in Madagascar
• Wildlife Encounters – Spot lemurs, chameleons, and exotic birds in their natural habitats.
• Marine Adventures – Snorkel or dive in Nosy Tanikely or Île Sainte Marie’s coral reefs, especially during whale season.
• Cultural Immersion – From Malagasy music and dance to tasting vanilla-infused local cuisine, Madagascar offers a cultural depth that’s as captivating as its landscapes.
When to Go & How Long to Stay
The best time to visit is during the dry season, from April to November, when roads are accessible, the sun shines, and wildlife is abundant. For Nosy Be and Île Sainte Marie specifically, 7–10 days is ideal – enough time to savour both islands, with a stopover in Tana to complete the picture.
So if Madagascar is whispering your name, ask us for a quote and let us curate your perfect holiday. This island nation is unlike anywhere else – and we can’t wait to help you discover its magic.
From Tree-Lions to Crater Views

– “Our Epic Safari Through Tanzania’s Serengeti & Ngorongoro”
— Mandi & Maxine, Directors of African Fusion Travel
“When you work in travel, you’ve seen a lot. But nothing could have prepared us—Mandi and I—for the sheer magic of Tanzania’s Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater. This was not just a safari. It was an immersion into the wild, where every turn brought a new surprise and every sunset left us speechless.”
Safari Dreams Come True
The Serengeti gifted us one of those rare “pinch me” moments—we saw the Big Five in a single day! Yes, really. From a lion kill (dramatic!) to a leopard lounging high in a tree after a feast, to a cheetah catching some shade under a shrub, it was a wildlife parade we’ll never forget. Bonus sightings? A giant python chilling beside the road, an incredible hyena den with youngsters too, and a whole cast of other creatures great and small.
Tree-Lions & Crater Vibes
One of the most unique and utterly fascinating things we witnessed on our Serengeti adventure? Tree-lions. Yes, actual lions perched high up in acacia trees, casually draped over branches like oversized house cats. It’s a rare behaviour and something you don’t see just anywhere—this isn’t your average “lion lounging on the savanna” moment, they’re unique to the area. While most lions prefer the ground, in the Serengeti (and also in certain parts of Uganda), some prides have developed the unusual habit of climbing trees. Why? Experts believe it’s a combination of things—escaping the heat, avoiding biting flies, or just getting a better view of the landscape and the prey moving below. And it’s not every pride that does it either—it’s often a learned behaviour passed down through generations within specific territories.
Seeing it firsthand felt like a scene straight out of a fantasy film. These big cats, legs dangling, tails flicking lazily in the breeze, ruled the canopy with regal ease. It was just another reminder that the Serengeti always has a surprise up its sleeve—and this one climbed right up a tree.
And then there’s Ngorongoro Crater. Imagine a fishbowl... filled with animals. It's lush, dramatic, and teeming with life at every corner. From the crater rim to the heart of the basin, it felt like stepping into a nature documentary—except we were in it.
Road Tripping, Safari Style
Getting around meant long days of driving, but we were in the ultimate safari mobile—a private 4x4 Toyota Land Cruiser with a pop-up roof (game-viewing heaven!). Our guide, Bahati, was a walking encyclopedia with eyes like a hawk. Every lunch stop was a treat: perched in the middle of the bush, surrounded by wildebeest and zebras, eating with a view that even five-star restaurants can’t compete with.
Campfire Feasts & Starry Skies
Our home in the Serengeti, Pure Tented Camp, was everything we hoped for—simple, stylish, and rooted in the wilderness. The food? Hearty, yum, and soul-warming. After long days of adventure, we’d tuck into comforting meals and swap stories around the fire.
And the stars—oh, the stars. With no city lights for miles, the sky felt impossibly big. Stargazing in that silence, under a blanket of glittering constellations, was the kind of moment that reawakens your sense of wonder.
Tanzania stole a piece of our hearts. This trip wasn’t just a safari—it was a deep, soul-stirring connection to nature, the kind that lingers long after you’ve dusted off your boots.
Already dreaming of going back? So are we.

Why We Love Beachcomber: First-Hand Insights From Mauritius

Written by Takara Rissik - Journey Specialist, African Fusion Travel
There’s a sense of magic in the Air, a whole lot of sunshine, and an Island charm you simply can’t put into words. From the warmest welcomes at each Beachcomber resort, to the mouth-watering dishes at their dreamy restaurants, to the art galleries at Dinarobin and Royal Palm that are giving major Pinterest inspiration and of course the sunsets that make you feel like you are living in a Paramount film. It’s a firm YES from me.
I’ve just returned from the magical island of Mauritius after hopping through all 8 of the fabulous Beachcomber resorts, and let me tell you — it’s basically Heaven. On. Earth. These resorts aren’t just beautiful; they’ve each got their own personality, and are ready to match your vibe perfectly. There is a property for every kind of traveller.
Planning a fun trip with your friends and want to dance the night away in Grand Baie? Mauricia Beachcomber is calling your name. On a honeymoon and craving romance? Victoria for Two is the ultimate couples’ haven (PS: The swim-up rooms are a total game changer). Celebrating a big family milestone? Victoria and Trou aux Biches have you covered. For peaceful energy and nature-filled days, Canonnier is your tranquil bestie. Foodies? Head straight to Dinarobin and Paradis — these two five-star sisters share eight incredible restaurants. It’s basically a never-ending feast for your heart and stomach. Try Zest for a Mediterranean table style feast and you can thank me later.

And if you’re after full-on pampering, then make way to Royal Palm — the queen of them all, complete with her own flower shop.
And of course, there’s stunning Shandrani, the beloved family classic, a convenient 10-minute drive from the Airport and filled with so many memories. It’s a vibrant property with incredible all-inclusive options, set on a private peninsula, offering the perfect blend of action-packed adventure and laid-back beach bliss.

But beyond the beaches, adventure filled kids’ clubs, mouth-watering cocktails, soulful Sega dances, and jaw-dropping sunsets, what truly makes these resorts shine are the people. The wonderful, warm-hearted artisans who greet and treat you like family, anticipating your needs before you even know you have them (my sparkling water glass was always full), and they make every moment extra special. That’s the magic of true Mauritian hospitality. That’s what makes every single scent worth it. It’s a kind of warmth you can’t put into words.
If you are looking for your next Island escape, we can confidently recommend making it a Beachcomber one. Its not just your average all-inclusive holiday, it’s simply a way of doing life.

Victoria Falls Vibes: Stays, Wildlife Moments & One Spectacular Waterfall

“There’s something truly magical about Victoria Falls. It’s not just the thunderous roar of the ‘Smoke That Thunders’ or the mist that hangs in the air like a permanent rainbow — it’s the whole vibe.”
— Maxine Mathews, Director & Journey Specialist
Here’s Maxine’s account of her most recent Vic Falls trip: “On my latest visit to Zimbabwe’s crown jewel, I had the chance to experience it in the best way possible: from two stunning lodges, with incredible food, wild encounters, and heart-stopping views around every corner.
Zambezi-side Bliss at Old Drift Lodge - Our first stop was the spectacular Old Drift Lodge, nestled right on the banks of the mighty Zambezi River. Waking up to the sound of hippos grunting and elephants casually wandering past your suite? Absolute bucket-list material.
The lodge itself is a dream — beautiful yet completely at home in the wild. The service was top-notch (think: warm Zimbabwean hospitality paired with crisp G&Ts at sunset), the food divine, and the views? Straight out of National Geographic. We packed our days with sunset river cruises, game drives bursting with wildlife, and even a surprise giraffe sighting near the pool. It’s the kind of place where adventure and relaxation live side by side — and I couldn’t get enough.

Classic Charm at The Elephant Camp - From the riverside, we moved to timeless safari elegance at The Elephant Camp. Set on a private concession with sweeping views over the Batoka Gorge, this lodge stole my heart with its old-school charm and intimate atmosphere. It’s the kind of place that feels like a deep exhale — calm, warm, and filled with character.
One of the highlights? Our elephant encounter through the Victoria Falls Wildlife Trust. Getting up close with these gentle giants in a meaningful, conservation-focused way was both humbling and unforgettable. We also ventured into the Chamabondo Game Reserve, where the game drive served up everything from buffalo to a lioness lounging in the golden light. Oh, and did I mention the food? Let’s just say, dessert was never skipped.

A Feast with a View at The Lookout Café - Before we said hello to the Falls themselves, we stopped for lunch at The Lookout Café — a must-visit spot perched right above the Batoka Gorge. The vibe is casual-chic, the menu packed with flavour (yes to the crocodile tail skewers!), and the view? Let’s just say your camera roll will thank you. Bellies full, we set off on a private guided tour of Victoria Falls, which felt like walking into a wonder of the world — because, well, it is. From the thundering Devil’s Cataract to the misty Main Falls, every viewpoint was more breathtaking than the last.

It never gets old, to stand before this beautiful Natural Wonder!
Final Thoughts?
Victoria Falls wows me in every possible way — from lodges and unforgettable wildlife, to incredible food and that showstopping waterfall. Whether it’s your first visit or your fifteenth, it’s a place that always delivers goosebumps.

The Island of Mauritius

The Island. The epitome of “Soul Food”.
“Mauritius is so much more than a beautiful Indian Ocean Island located off the South East Coast of Africa. It’s an Island that you never want to leave, because your soul is happy and your memory bucket is over flowing.” - Takara Rissik
The Island of Mauritius
Mauritius is so much more than a beautiful Indian Ocean Island located off the South East Coast of Africa. It’s the bright colours of its Frangipani flowers that give off the most magical scent, it’s the smiles and friendly personalities of the local creole people, it’s the freshness of a Phoenix beer after a long “tough” day on the beach and the smell of the fresh Biryani being cooked along the streets of Grand Baie, but most importantly, it’s an Island that you never want to leave, because your soul is happy and your memory bucket is over flowing.
Having lived on the Island of Mauritius for three consecutive years, I have honestly been able to experience the Island from both the point of a Tourist and an expat/student, and whilst being a tourist is most certainly more upmarket (as in most countries), being an expat/student was one of my greatest pleasures and joys of adulthood. I met so many exceptional people and learnt so much from local cultures and traditions.
The Island boasts so many lovely properties for all types of guests who wish to visit the Island, catering to every individual budget which is one of the reasons why we at African Fusion Travel loves the destination so much; it’s an inclusive destination.

Passport Control:
You won't find a friendlier passport control anywhere!
In all honesty, as long as you have all the required documents—such as your accommodation voucher, the all-in-one travel form, and your passport—you’ll be all set. If you’re traveling with African Fusion Travel, don’t worry; we’ll make sure you're fully informed about the necessary paperwork.
How to get around the Island:
If you have ever travelled to this Island, you will most certainly be able to vouch for the warmth and friendliness of the local Taxi drivers, who often going out of their way to make you feel welcome. Many tourists find themselves chatting with drivers who are eager to share local tips, recommendations for attractions, and even insightful advice on hidden gems that aren't always on the typical tourist radar (I could probably compile a short story on all the great tips and restaurant’s I’ve learnt from some of the fantastic drivers I have met along the way). Their knowledge of the island’s culture and history can be incredibly valuable, making the journey not just a ride but an experience. However, it's always a good idea to double-check details and itineraries with your hotel concierge, ensuring everything aligns with your plans and preferences.

Adult Only Properties
Whilst Mauritius is commonly known as the perfect family destination (which it absolutely is), it should be noted that the Island boasts SO many Adult only properties or Adult only wings that are the absolute perfect gem for those adults looking for a more private and peaceful escape, or the perfect honeymoon destination.
Beachcomber - Victoria for Two
Modern, trendy and a total vibe are three (or maybe four) words that totally sum up this adult only wing at Beachcomber Victoria Resort and Spa. Situated along its own private stretch of beach this wing offers a total of 17 swim up rooms along which are fantastic for couples who plan on lounging in the sun with the nearby comfort and privacy of their room. The rooms draw on many elements of local Mauritian culture which can be seen through the art work and some of the pieces of furniture which is a beautiful tribute to the local culture found around the Island.
This wing is also home to the lovely Morris beef restaurant that has a menu as wide as your cravings. They’ve just updated their menu, so I wont spoil all the surprises, but let’s just say, their salads are definitely worth a try (You can thank me later).
Guests who are booked into the Adult Only wing do also have access to the many other restaurants found around the property and can be encouraged to try them too. The property also has a spectacular Italian restaurant for all you foodies!
Victoria for Two is a tranquil escape that certainly steals the heart.

Veranda Paula & Virginie Hotel and Spa
Veranda Paul & Virginie Hotel and Spa offers the perfect blend of relaxation and rejuvenation, making it an ideal destination for a mom and daughter trip, a honeymoon, or simply a peaceful adult retreat. The resort is set along a peaceful stretch of beach on the Islands North coast.
For moms and daughters, this property is the perfect chance to unwind and enjoy peaceful beach days and spa treatments at the amazing 7 colours Wellness experience. Couples on honeymoon can enjoy romantic dinners near the sea and romantic sunset walks.
It should also be noted that whilst this hotel is a boutique hotel and is on a smaller and more intimate scale it does offer a variety of very impressive activities that caters for everyone.
The spa at Veranda Paul et Virginie is truly exceptional, and I can wholeheartedly recommend it. The treatments are based on colour therapy, where guests choose a colour upon arrival, each representing different chakra energies. This unique experience is not to be missed and offers a deeply relaxing and rejuvenating journey for the mind, body, and spirit.
If you are looking for a boutique escape, this is truly the place for you!

Le Meridien Ile Maurice
The Nirvana Wing at Le Méridien provides a perfect escape for adults looking to relax and take in the stunning beauty of Mauritius' northwest coast. With sleek, modern rooms, the property offers a comfortable stay. The breakfast is one of dreams, leaving a lasting impression. While I didn’t have the chance to try the properties Asian-inspired restaurant, the stylish layout and interior design suggest that it’s an experience not to be missed!
A trendy escape for adults looking for their next vacation spot.

Victoria Falls – our favourite World Wonder so far!
The attraction is not only to go and witness the mighty Victoria Falls but the variety of other activities that both Zambia and Zimbabwe have to offer. These countries, which are rich in culture and unique to Africa, ensure a memorable holiday whether you are strapped for cash or can afford the extras.

Here’s why we love it…
It’s a quick hop, skip & a jump (aka a 1 hour and 40-minute flight!) from Johannesburg in South Africa to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe – just long enough to enjoy a delicious snack on Fastjet’s regional flight, and just short enough to type up your “out of office” notice for the few days ahead because you won’t be answering any emails!
They say the best time to visit Victoria Falls is between February to May, directly after the summer rains, when you’ll see the world’s largest sheet of falling water flowing at its greatest volume – however, if you can’t get away during these months, don’t despair because our lodges offer fantastic special offers in the “off-season”, and there is still so much adventure to be had throughout the rest of the year!
Expert tip: October is the hottest month of the year in Vic Falls (around 38°C / 100°F), and one of the very best months for safari. The animals don’t stray far from the little remaining water, but the Falls' water levels are at their very lowest and the Zambian side will the completely dry. Be sure to choose which is most important to you – game viewing or spectacular Vic Falls views – if you’re travelling around this time.

A map of Victoria Falls - Zimbabwe & Zambian sides
We’ve just finished up a 4-day trip to Vic Falls (both Zim & Zambian sides) and what a magical 4 days it was.
We started off by stocking up on a few treats at Duty Free after we’d checked in and had our ±2 hours to bide before departure, followed by a browse around the shops that have managed to remain open post-Covid. If you’re booked on an all-inclusive package through AFT, then you can give the Duty Free a miss for sure, as it’s absolutely not necessary! Though if you’re on B&B or Half Board for the days ahead, it’s always lovely to have a bottle of your favourite sundowner to enjoy on your veranda at sunset, that is IF you’re not heading out on a lovely game drive or sunset cruise on the Mighty Zambezi River. Nightcap then, perhaps?
The short flight was smooth sailing all the way, with a lovely snack box packed for us by the airline, filled with an OJ box-juice, something sweet, some biltong, and a little box of pringles. Only thing missing was the sunset! On arrival, you’re warmly welcomed (literally, it was 36°C when we disembarked!) by friendly faces, and the very colonially-styled Victoria Falls airport. After clearing immigration, which is quick and easy as the friendly staff direct you towards the correct queue where you either get a stamp in your passport on an SADC passport and go straight through, or purchase your tourist holiday visa (click here for more info), you collect your bags and head through the Arrivals Hall where you’ll be met by your driver, a trusted representative of African Fusion Travel.
A +- 20-minute drive takes you from the airport into the small town of Vic Falls, which is situated in the province of Matabeleland North, Zimbabwe. It lies on the southern bank of the Zambezi River at the western end of Victoria Falls itself. According to the 2022 Population Census, the town had a population of 35,199 – so all-in-all, quite quaint! From here, depending on your package booked, you will either be taken to your lodge, or across the border to Livingstone, which is on the Zambian side. This was the case for us;
Passport control was a breeze, and after getting our stamps we decided to walk across the Vic Falls bridge to the Zambian border, however after about 26 steps in the scorching sun, lugging a 16kg suitcase and our hand-luggage, we thought better of it and bumped into a lovely friendly gent who had a bicycle/tuk-tuk service where you can pay around US$5 – US$10 to be cycled across to the other side. What a hoot! We put our suitcase on the roof (the shade was so welcome in the heat), the driver (or should we say “Cycler”!) turned up the volume on his little make-shift surround sound system – which was wired on to the back of the seat, very innovative – and off we went! After about 1.8km of cycling, our poor “driver” was puffing and panting, and we still had to get us up the little hill to the Zambian border post. So in true kind, African culture, another passer by who was selling curios decided to help push from behind so that we could make it to our final destination! We got to the border in good time and with belly-laughs in tow, and after a generous tip to both of the helpful lads, we set off on the next leg of our journey – to where we’d be staying for the next few nights.
We spent our days exploring the town of Livingstone, visiting the local market, a dream activity – the Flight Of Angels helicopter flip over Victoria Falls, game drives, sunset cruises on the Zambezi River, and delicious lunch at The Victoria Falls Waterfront, and on the Zim side - the Vulture Culture experience, dinner cruise on the Zambezi, and a bubbles at Lookout Café, to name a few! These tried and tested offerings are some that we’ll never forget, and we can gladly say that when you travel to Vic Falls, you should have them on your bucket list!

Highlights of our trip, and top tips on what to include in your itinerary, when you book your Vic Falls trip with us:
Vic Falls, Zimbabwe:
• The Vulture Culture Experience - don’t miss the opportunity to witness the spectacular sight of hundreds of vultures swooping down and feeding on leftover meat scraps and bones from the on-site restaurants in front of Victoria Falls Safari Lodge at 1pm daily (this activity is complimentary), followed by Cocktails on the deck with the most spectacular sunset views
• Siduli Hide - A sit in the Siduli Hide at the edge of the Victoria Falls Safari Lodge waterhole offers the incredible opportunity to watch wildlife at very close quarters for a sustained period of time.
• Dusty Road Township Experience - This unique restaurant and cultural experience is found in the heart of the Victoria Falls township where most of the local inhabitants live. Experience warm Zimbabwean hospitality and hearty meals with a strong Zimbabwean heritage in this quirkily designed and charming restaurant.
• Explore Victoria Falls Town and its markets for iconic soapstone sculptures
• Bamba Bus – this unique experience offers a hop-on-hop service in Victoria Falls with a distinctly African flair. It makes getting around town easy, fun and affordable.
• Elephants Walk Shopping and Artist Village is home to the small but excellent Jafuta Heritage Centre, which is tucked between the town’s best shops.
• Victoria Falls town has some of the best restaurants in central southern Africa. For African food, it’s hard to beat the bushbuck lasagna at Lola’s Tapas and Carnivore Restaurant, which serves game meats with Mediterranean flair. If you’re really hungry, opt for the buffet feast at Boma, which includes traditional dancing and interactive drumming. Three Monkeys is the place to go for pizza, burgers, and excellent service, and Nam Took, in the Elephant’s Walk complex, turns out terrific Thai food.
• For an afternoon treat, book ahead for high tea (US$30) at the resplendent Victoria Falls Hotel – Zimbabwe’s oldest and grandest hotel – which offers superb views across manicured lawns towards Victoria Falls Bridge as you munch on jam-and-cream scones.
• Perched on the edge of Batoka Gorge, right near the bridge, Lookout Cafe is arguably the best spot on the Zimbabwean side to enjoy a sundowner.
• Back in town is The River Brewing Company, perhaps the most atmospheric spot for a brew in town, while the bar at Shoestrings backpacker’s hostel is the place to party on.
Livingstone, Zambia:
• More relaxed activities in Vic Falls include sunset cruises, and high tea on Livingstone Island, the spot from where British explorer David Livingstone first viewed the falls in 1855. If you’re planning a trip to Livingstone in Zambia, don’t miss the Livingstone Museum.
• Upper Zambezi Canoe Safaris
• Horseback Trails – in the Mosi-o-Tunya National Park.
• Gwembe Reptile Park and Safaris crocodiles and snakes at close range
• Tandem Kayaking – An experienced kayaker will take you through the raging rapids of the Zambezi River, below the Falls.
• Swimming at Devil's Pool and Livingstone Island Tour
• Dinner cruise on the Zambezi River
• Pizzas after 3pm at The Victoria Falls Waterfront
• Delicious authentic Indian Curry at The Golden Leaf Restaurant
• Dinner on a steam train - The Royal Livingstone Express is a unique and different experience; a trip back in time to the and grandeur of the bygone era of steam trains. An actual red carpet welcomed us and we mounted the stairs to the train with a glass of wine in hand. Wandering through the fabulously restored and renovated carriages, we chose a seat in the elegant lounge car.
Available on either side of the Falls:
• Visit the mighty Victoria Falls
• White water rafting
• Helicopter flights
• Microlight flights
• Gorge Swing & Zipline
• Sunset booze cruise
• Game drives
• Bird watching
• Bungee Jumping
• Chobe National Park Day Trip - One for the animal lovers, this tour involves two safaris (one river-based, the other in a 4x4) in the Botswana's incredible Chobe National Park (no, that's not a typo - you go to Botswana for the day!)
We hear you wondering; “Can I Combine a Safari With Victoria Falls?”
Absolutely! In fact, we’d recommend combining your visit with a safari, as Vic Falls is a travel hub for the region and very close to many outstanding Big 5 destinations.
Great Game Reserves to Combine With Your Visit to Victoria Falls:
- Hwange and Mana Pools in Zimbabwe
- Kafue and Lower Zambezi in Zambia
- Chobe National Park in Botswana
- Kruger National Park in South Africa (there is a very convenient direct flight)

Golfing in Mauritius

Mauritius is the ultimate year-round golfing destination.
When you think of your dream getaway, do you think of greens and birdies just as much as you do cocktails and sunbeds? Well then Mauritius is calling your name, and more specifically, our stunning Beachcomber Resorts & The Heritage Hotels are where you need to be!
Beachcomber provides an exceptional golfing experience for guests at selected resorts, complete with package options and professional coaching. The 18-hole, par 72-championship golf course at Paradis is considered among the best golf courses in the Indian Ocean.
Set against a canvas of crystal seas and an impossibly blue sky, there cannot be a more beautiful place in the world to play that perfect round of golf. At hotels where there is no course, golf can be arranged at Paradis or at Mont Choisy Le Golf, a new 18-hole golf course in the north of Mauritius.
The Peter Matkovich-designed Mont Choisy Le Golf has become a favourite with its unique landscaping. Rolling green grasslands complement the distinct indigenous rock features of the black volcanic rock outcrops beautifully. Ponds and other water features will add character to the course and natural sand hazards will blend seamlessly with the grassy surroundings. Large palm trees bordering the course lend a typical tropical ambience to the area. Guests of Canonnier and Trou aux Biches enjoy special perks and privileges when playing Mont Choisy Le Golf.
The course at Paradis is a typical links course, designed to challenge the champion and entertain the novice.
Facilities include:
• A club house with a storeroom for guests’ golf equipment
• Three full-time pros to attend to guests’ needs and give private lessons
• Pro shop, practice balls, clubs and trolleys on hire at the club house
• Practice green, practice bunker and driving range
Paradis Golf Academy
The Golf Academy is designed to assist beginners and seasoned golfers to improve their technique, build on strengths and pinpoint weaknesses. Personalised training and coaching are provided using computer software, coupled with video technology.
Paradis Golf Challenge
Beachcomber Tours organises two annual golf tournaments. Make up a team of four and one person will get free land arrangements. The winner of the tournament will receive free land arrangements, including an air ticket, to defend their title in the challenge the following year. The runner-up will receive free accommodation for the next tournament.

Beachcomber Resorts - Golf
Heritage Golf Club is an 18-hole Championship Golf course (par 72) also designed by Peter Matkovitch (South African golf course designer). Nestled between mountains and a pristine lagoon, the design of this spectacular 18-hole golf course and the level of golf techniques possible, offers golfers a memorable experience, whatever the standard of your game. Accompanied by beautiful vistas from every green and tee, it is one of the most spectacular golf courses in Mauritius.
It is also certainly one of the most beautiful on the island with amazing views of the lagoon on one side and the hills of the Black River Gorges Nature Reserve on the other. The naturally hilly landscape features many lakes, streams and tropical flora. The natural fauna is also prolific and includes a wide variety of protected bird species and even a family of deer.
And the Heritage group has a brand new course coming next year! But we know you can’t wait that long, that’s why we have a golfing special running now (CLICK HERE FOR DETAILS) that gives you the opportunity to play 5 rounds of golf on four courses. Not only will you get two rounds at Heritage but you’ll also get to play on the nearby Paradis, Tamarina, and Avalon courses too, with transfers and buggies included!
As we all know golfing is hungry work, there are also two magnificent dining options to be found right on the course. The Club House has a beautiful open space extended by a Mauritian veranda and offers a friendly and welcoming atmosphere where you can enjoy a light meal and savour your victory over a good meal. There is also a drinks cart that tours the greens to refresh you during your play.
Facing the golf course, the Château de Bel Ombre is an exquisite 19th century property filled with history and culture. Here you can book private fine dining experiences to really elevate your holiday to the next level.

We’re Back!

We’re back, stronger than before!
After closing our doors for several months due to the Covid-19 pandemics’ affects on the tourism industry, we are excited to announce that African Fusion Travel, which has been in business for over 15 years prior to the pandemic, is back in business. As the world has started to reopen, and with key destinations which we sell finally removing their Covid-19 border measures for vaccinated international travellers, families can start to reunite, businesses can re-engage face-to-face with their clients and the travel industry can start helping their customers plan their bucket-list trips and dream holidays once again!
Many countries are welcoming fully vaccinated travellers, with fewer travel restrictions in place as time goes on, however travel remains complicated (more so now than ever before) and it has never been more important to seek the advice of a trusted journey specialist to help book your trip and navigate the various travel restrictions, and with that said, our dynamic team are experts in the destinations and properties we sell, and are constantly receiving and sharing guidance and travel advice with regards to any restrictions and new Covid-19 policies for entering certain countries as soon as it becomes available.
Rory Boland, travel editor of consumer group Which? pointed out in an interview with Travel Weekly that “A good travel insurance policy will continue to be essential, and it’s also advisable to book with a credit card to give yourself further protection.” - and we couldn’t agree more!
Working with an experienced travel designer is an absolute must these days. The added value of working with a professional in the travel industry includes tailor made itineraries set to meet each guests’ individual needs, budgets and exclusive experiences. Peace of mind from take-off till landing can make the difference between a trip of a lifetime and a "wow I cannot wait to get home speech"!
