Built on the famous and historical twelve hills and surrounded by rice paddies, the capital city of Madagascar offers you one of the most attractive picture of Malagasy city: Just imagine the mixture of vivid red brick house color with the lively green rice field and all of that decorated by the magical purple flower of the jacaranda trees.

Today , your destination is “Perinet rainforest”. A drive that takes you three hours and half along a winding road but interesting scenery of Madagascar country side which is again dominated by rice fields. On the way you must stop at Mangoro bridge and river trying to spot the Madagascar Pranticole. On your arrival in Perinet, you will be taken straight into the forest for any kind of available birds but for this time of the day, the Indri Indri which is the largest lemur of Madagascar is much more interesting to spot. So, do not miss the opportunity.
The afternoon will be then spent to look for marsh and swamp birds like Madagascar Rail, Grey Emutail, Madagascar little Grebe, Madagascar Flufftail, Swamp Warbler then the visit can be followed by magical night walk in search of interesting creatures like Leaf tailed Gecko, Mouse Lemur as well as bird like the Madagascar nightjar, Madagascar Eastern scops owl or the Long eared owl..
Day 3: Perinet
An early start will take you to Andasibe rainforest in search of endemic bird species such as Pitta-like Ground Roller, Short-legged Ground Roller, Dusky Greenbul, Red-fronted Coua, Blue Coua, Blue Vanga, Nuthatch Vanga, Rand’s Warbler, Wedge-tailed Jerry. In very late afternoon you will be taken for another walk for birds like Madagascar Nightjar, Long-eared Owl., Scops Owl or lemurs such as the Dwarf Lemur, Sportive Lemur … as well as chameleons and frogs.
Day 4: Perinet
Much more interesting than Perinet because of its luxurious forest and the high level of endemism, Mantadia is the right place for you to improve the number of the Rainforest bird on your list. So, try hard to find the Roufous-headed Ground Roller, Scaly Ground Roller, Helmet Vanga, Hents Goshawk, Red-breasted Coua..
Even though, you should not forget to look for the most beautiful lemur of Madagascar called Diademed Sifaka, and the bonus can be the meeting with a group of noisy but nice Black and White Ruffed Lemur.
Another night visit can be done in Mantadia just to catch up with the list of night animals you missed earlier.
Day 5: Perinet – Antsirabe
After breakfast you will leave Andasibe and head back to Antananarivo where you will have lunch before driving further south to Antsirabe. This almost a day journey will allow you to discover the fascinating landscape of central plateaux of Madagascar that is dominated by hills and valleys. It is important to note here that Antsirabe area is one of the most fertile land of the country. Then overnight in Antsirabe: one of the most relaxing town of the country.

Day 6: Antsirabe – Ranomafana
Today you will be taken on a day drive down to Ranomafana rainforest. The first leg of the journey will allow you to see again the typical image of the highland: hills and terraced rice-field but as long as you approach Ranomafana, the landscape changes drastically from bold hills of the central plateaux into luxurious vegetation of eastern Madagascar and meant to introduce you already the beauty of the Ranomafana rainforest.
Day 7 : Ranomafana
Changed into national park after the rediscovery of a special lemur called Golden Bamboo Lemur, Ranomafana is one of the most beautiful rainforest of Madagascar and very rich as far as the biodiversity is concerned.
So, all day to explore the park for you to look for more endemic birds and can be the opportunity to catch up with certain unspotted species. On the list then you have the Pollen’s Vanga , Tylas Vanga, Forest Rock-Thrush, Yellow bellied Sunbird-Asity , Brown Mesite, Brown Emutail, Yellow-browed Oxylabes, Serpent Eagle (if lucky) Grey crowned Tetraka , Wedge-tailed Jery, and of course the Ground Rollers.
Even though, you should not miss the occasion to come across the three species of Bamboo lemurs that make the fame of the park or the bigger one like the Milne Edward’s Sifaka .
The mid-afternoon is for you to get back into the forest again and start walking up to the “view point” from where you get closer look on the Stripped Civet, the Ring-tailed Mongoose, and sometimes the Red-bellied Lemur trying to chase the Mouse Lemurs.
Day 8: Ranomafana
Another day for you to visit Ranomafana and this time you will be taken to another part on the national park called “Vohiparara”. When getting there look for Slender billed flufftail, Madagascar Rail, Madagascar Snipe, Grey Emutail, Crested Ibis.
Then the balance of the day can be spent to look for more difficult species that you may still not have on your list or at leisure for you to visit the museum, the lovely Ranomafana village and the thermal bath (famous for its power to heal any kind of skin disease).
Day 9 : Ranomafana – Isalo
Day for you to leave Ranomafana and come back again to the N7 road again. This time you definitely leave the eastern part of the country to get to the more drier area. On the way the change of landscape will be amazing as the rainforest of Ranomafana will give way to a monotonous grassland which is going to be hot.. As part of the journey you may pay a visit at the interesting Antemoro paper factory that can take you back in history when the Malagasy language used to be written in Arabic script on this type of paper.
Then drive again for around five hours until a place called Isalo. If time allowing try to look for the Benson’s Rock Thrush that occurs even near your hotel.

Day 10 : Isalo
Breakfast at the hotel. In the morning visit of the “Canyon des Makis” where you can find the ring tailed, brown and the Sifaka lemurs. In the afternoon, walk to the natural swimming pool through the tapia trees and the beautiful landscape of the National Park. Return back to your Hotel
Day 11 : Isalo – Tulear
Leave from Isalo National Park then you Guide and Driver take you to Zombitse national park where the protection of a bird called Appert’s Tetraka and its ecosystem was the reason for its creation.. This nice example of Dry decidous forest is also home to bird like Giant Coua, Coquerel’s Coua. Then the continuation to the southwest will be an hot drive but interesting because of the change from the empty grassland into the impressive spiny forest around Tulear.

Day 12& 13: Tulear – Ifaty
Leave the hotel early in the morning and explore the nearby forest in search for some species that you may have missed on the previous days such as like Red shouldered Vanga, Varreaux’s Coua…
Then transfer by road to Ifaty which takes about 45 mn. Ifaty is the best place for the spiny forest birds such as the sub-desert Mesite, Sickle billed Vanga, Rufous Vanga, Archbold’s Newtonia, Green capped Coua, Running Coua, Long tailed ground roller…
Stay 02 nights in Ifaty.
Day 14: Ifaty – Tulear – Tana
Today leave Ifaty for the airport of Tulear and fly back to Tana.

Day 15: Tana – Majunga – Ampijoroa
You will be collected from your hotel and transferred to the Airport for your flight to Majunga. On your arrival, you will be met by our representatives and driven directly to Ankarafantsika or Ampijoroa (120km suothest of Majunga, 3 Hours) where there is the Ampijoroa National Park. It is a magnificent example of western Tropical dry deciduous forest. and harbours a plethora of wildlife such as reptiles and lemurs.

Day 16 : Ampijoroa
A whole day to explore Ampijoroa Forest, Birdwatching is also outstanding with a number of rare endemics, such as Schlegel’s asity, Madagascar fish eagle and Van Dam’s Vanga frequently seen, Coquerel’s coua, crested coua, White Breasted Mesite…. With aquatic birds in Lac Ravelobe on the northern side of the road.
Day 17 : Ampijoroa
Another day for birding at ampijoroa -late in the afternoon drive back to majunga
Day 18 : Majunga – Betsiboka Delta
In the morning , after breakfast boat transfer to Betsiboka delta, a common place for spoting aquatic birds, such as Sacred Ibis ( black and white), Humblots Heron, Whimbrel, Bernier’s Teal, Crab plover, Lesser Flamingos, Grey Heron, and more shores bird….., back to Majunga at noon and drive to the Airport for the flight to Tana.
