The unique Lake Manyara accommodation at this lodge includes a choice of circular, double-storey, white-washed ‘rondavels’ (traditional circular buildings with conical thatched roofs), which are strung out along the edge of the cliff so as to allow for some of the most spectacular views.
Each spacious circular room has its own small veranda, while the interior décor reflects the blue of the lake and the pink of its flamingos. Behind each bed hangs a spectacular hand-woven rug, while the furnishings and fittings reflect traditional Maasai bead-work.
Standard Room facilities include:
Overlooking Lake Manyara, the Suite is named after the hills visible from the veranda, has cool, polished cement floors, chunky rugs, a living area with a sofa and armchair, occasional tables and chairs, a writing desk, filled minibar (extra cost), and tea- and coffee-making facilities, a small TV (DSTV and DVD player), and a fan. The modest-sized bedroom has a king-size bed, clothes storage and a digital safe. The bathroom features the lodge’s only bathtub, a small rainfall shower screened by a plastic curtain and a double vanity unit. There’s a separate toilet closet, and another guest loo off the lounge.
The spacious dining room features an interior bar area, a central buffet and both inside and outside seating. Presented in typical Maasai style, it features the use of swirling primary colours on textured white walls, which are embellished with traditional Masai bead-work, gourds and leather work.
Breakfast and lunch
Breakfast and lunch are presented in buffet-style and feature a wide range of international choices. In typical safari style, they offer a ‘full English Breakfast’ as well as European options while lunch menus will typically include meat, poultry, fish and vegetarian options.
The table d’hôte dinner menus feature a salad buffet, soup, entrée, pudding, cheese and biscuits and tea or coffee. Vegetarian options are always available. The majority of the meat and dairy products, as well as the fruits and vegetables are sourced from the communities that surround the Lake Manyara National Park.
Wines, beers, spirits and soft drinks
The wine list offers a broad selection of old- and new-world wines, and local and imported beers and spirits. The lodge also offer a wide range of soft drinks including an array of freshly-made local fruit juices. They serve only the finest Tanzanian coffee and tea; and also offer a wide range of fruit and herbal infusions.
The Lodge is expert in arranging breakfasts, lunches, dinners and cocktails in the bush. They have a number of dedicated sites, which are typically presented with tables, safari chairs, ‘bush bar’ and a ‘bush kitchen’, where a broad range of meats, poultry, fish and vegetables are cooked on-site (supplemented by fresh soups, salads and puddings from the hotel kitchens). In the evenings, ‘sun-downer’ cocktails are traditionally served around a campfire and can be followed by a lamp-lit ‘bush dinner’ for a unique safari experience in Tanzania.
