Kunene Twyfelfontein Country Lodge

The Twyfelfontein Country Lodge is located in the Huab valley in Namibia’s Kunene region (formerly known as Damaraland). The Twyfelfontein Uibasen Conservacy was home the natural Khoi-San inhabitants 6000 years ago. Many rock paintings and engravings have been preserved and is currently a national heritage site making it a must-see in terms of places to go. Twyfelfontein was proclaimed a national monument in 1952.

The lodge has many facilities to offer with cuisine being one of their main priorities making them rather famous for their delicious authentic Namibian meals. The lodge also offers a bar, a lounge area and a pool area just a few steps away.

Experience and explore Namibian fauna and flora as well as unique rock formations, Petrified Forest and Doros Crater with the safaris offered by the lodge. These spectacular rocks are rarely seen untampered with, definitely something worth seeing.

There are 56 ensuite rooms on offer at the Twyfelfontein Country Lodge. Ranging from Twin  to Triple to Double Rooms there is no shortage of place to rest in comfort of the hot Namibian Deserts. All rooms are fitted with air-conditioners and all other amenities you may need.

The rooms are basic and rustic. Built from natural stone and thatch, painted to blend into the desert for a truly natural feeling, truly charming and suited for an African getaway experience. You can view the desert elephants straight from the comfort of your own veranda for a real treat that you may not experience anywhere else in the world.

You too have an option of the luxury suite which offers a private bar and private splash pool hidden from the public eye in the rocks.It’s discrete, perfect for your honeymoon getaway experience.

Dining & Entertainment

The Twyvelfontein Country Lodge is famous for its delicious Namibian cuisine making the restaurant full all day round. À la Carte is an option but the buffet and carvey is what gave them their famed reputation. Visitors are known to stop by and book for the Twyfelfontein dining experience; you’re sure to be treated. For breakfast there is pleasantly surprising myriad of fresh produce to choose from as well as excellent mature cheeses.

For entertainment you have a bar and lounge area for your open desert viewing pleasure, but if that’s too hot for you, you can enjoy their famed cocktails by the pool just a few steps away to cool off. 

Surroundings

Twyfelfontein is known as a national heritage site for its well preserved rock paintings and engravings. There are 17 rock painting sites, totalling 212 stone slabs of history. These are believed to have belonged the the Khoi-San people who died out 1000 years ago, making it particularly unique. Seeing such well-preserved artworks from history is a once in a lifetime opportunity and most certainly unforgettable.

If geology is your thing, due to volcanic eruptions beautiful rock formations have formed making it another place to definitely see. These rock formations can be seen at the Doros Crater, Burnt Mountains, Organ Pipes and Petrified Forest; all within the vicinity of the lodge.

If you’re a nature lover there is plenty of wildlife to be seen namely the Elephants and Giraffes. Plants species are certainly not rare in the desert, discover plants in the most natural, raw form.
