After your arrival at Port Elizabeth, the ‘Friendly City’ of South Africa between about 11:00 AM and 12:00 PM midday you will begin your journey down to one of the Western Cape’s best coastal cities, Knysna. The drive is about 320 kilometres long so it would take a good few hours but the whole journey is part of the fun with various scenic stops along the way as well as driving through the famed Tsitsikamma Forest.
You will arrive the Knysna Hollow just in time for dinner where you will be treated with a hearty meal and friendly service to help you unwind after your busy first day.
Day 2 is all about sight-seeing with only an estimated 15 kilometres travelled. Spend the day cruising on the vast, warm Knysna Lagoon and make your way down to the Featherbed Nature Reserve. Knysna is well renowned for its greenery and wildlife which make for excellent hikes through the forests and around the marshes. Take a long stroll along the clean, pristine beaches of the coast.
You’ll be back in time for a filling lunch and the rest of the day is all there for you to relax and talk to your travel companions about the adventures had.
This will be your second and last night at the Knysna Hollow so sit back and enjoy what the lodge has to offer!
Day 3 is another long day of travel with a total of 210 kilometres to travel. You will leave the Knysna Hollow early in the morning for your journey to Oudtshoorn. On the way, there will be a stop at the Cango Caves which are one of the best natural wonders of South Africa. Outeniqua Pass has some of the best views that the Western Cape can offer.
On your arrival at the ‘feather capital of the world,’ Oudtshoorn, known for it’s ostrich industry. Lunch will be served here where you can indulge in an Ostrich Steak and from there on, you will receive a tour of the ostrich farm where you will be taught the wonders and habits of these bizarre, giant birds.
Accommodation for the night will be at the Queens Hotel, a classic, colonial masterpiece.
The journey ends with the longest distance travelled at 475 kilometres from Oudtshoorn all the way to Cape Town. Enjoy a day of an ever-changing canvas as you drive along ‘Route 62 to the coastal capital city.
Whales often make appearances during the Southern Hemisphere’s Winter and Spring, if your trip is during this time of the year, there will be a detour to Hermanus where you can whale watch Southern Right whales swim and surface from a viewing point.
